8 things to do in Gozo

If you are planning to go to Malta for a few days, you should definitely visit Gozo for 1 or 2 days. The second Maltese island is beautiful. It’s less crowded than Malta and the landscapes are amazing. I live in Malta since 2 years and I like to spend weekends in Gozo. There is a lot of things to do there. Here are my 8 favorites:

8 things to do in Gozo

#1 Victoria

Victoria is the capital of Gozo. It’s the perfect place to buy a souvenir, stop for lunch and walk in the lovely streets. If it’s not too hot, visit the citadel. You will have a nice view on the whole island!

#2 Dwejra bay

The main thing to see at Dwejra bay was the famous Azure Window, but it collapsed in 2018. It’s still a nice place to go. There is no beach, but you can find a spot on the rocks and have a swim in the crystal blue sea. It’s also the perfect place to watch the sunset.

#3 Inland sea

Just behind Dwejra bay, you will find the inland sea. It’s a part of the sea that is separated from the rest of the sea by big rocks. It looks like a big natural swimming pool. The water is crystal green, it’s beautiful!

#4 Sanctuary Ta’Pinu

The Sanctuary Ta’Pinu is in the village of Gharb. This wonderful basilica is dedicated to the Blessed Virgin of Ta’Pinu. This is a very important place for Catholics. Some popes have prayed there.

#5 Gigantija temples

You are interested in archeology? Then you should definitely visit the Gigantija temples. These temples date back to +- 3600 BC. They are listed on the UNESCO World heritage list. The ticket to visit it will also allow you to visit the Ta’Kola windmill.

#6 Ramla Bay

Ramla Bay is a beautiful golden beach situated at the North of the island. You can hike in the surroundings, it’s beautiful. You will have the most beautiful view on the beach from Mixta Cave.

#7 Dive or snorkel

Gozo is the perfect place to dive or to snorkel. The sea is crystal blue and you will see a lot of fishes and other sea animals. I dived in Xlendi Bay but the water was a bit blurry there. The blue hole in Dwjera Bay seems to be the perfect spot for diving and snorkeling!

#8 Relax in a villa or farmhouse

I also like to go to Gozo to rent a house and spend the weekend chilling, reading and swimming. It’s the perfect way to relax before starting a new week of work!

How to go to Gozo

From Malta, you have to take a bus going to the ferry terminal in Cirkewwa. Lots of buses are going there. Then you have to take a ferry (20-30minutes). There are 2 departures per hour and the price is €4,65 back and forth.
