5 tips to pack light

Did you know that most of the travelers have on their suitcase 60% of things they need and 40% of these “in case of” things? 40% of things they don’t need at the end!

You probably already had this situation where you realize that your luggage is too small, or too heavy according to the flight company’s rules. You do and undo your suitcase a dozen times, you try to sit on it to close it, or you decide to wear lots of clothes at the airport and you look… not really good 😉

Stop doing that and follow these 5 tips to pack light!

travels

#1 List what you need

Before starting to pack, prepare a list and think about what you really need. Think about the programme of your city trip/travel. Ask you some questions like: do I really need 3 dresses and 2 pairs of high heels if I am planning to hike? Do I really need my tablet for this travel or can I leave it at home and just use my smartphone?

#2 Avoid too much “in case of”

We always take lots of “in case of” stuff. Sometimes, we actually need 4 outfits, and we take in total 4 outfits, +1 in case of we go out, +1 in case of it’s colder than we thought, +1 if it’s warmer, +1 in case of we poor some wine on it, +1 if…

All the “in case of” NEVER happen at the same time. So we always end up with too many clothes. Try to stick to your list, and take 1 outfit “in case of”.

#3 Bring “multi-function items”

Maybe you have a nice jacket that you can wear during the day with a t-shirt, jeans, and sneakers, but this jacket might also perfectly fits with a dress/suit and some nice shoes to have dinner in a fancy restaurant. You will save space/weight by taking this jacket, instead of one for the day and one for the night.

#4 Choose a light suitcase

If you can take 10 kilos and if your suitcase weighs already 3 kilos when it’s empty… it’s not that ideal. When buying a new suitcase, it’s always good to look for a light one.

#5 Wash some clothes during your travel

Traveling for 1 month doesn’t mean that you need to take clothes for 1 month. You can find a way to wash them, wherever you are. Lots of hotels provide a laundry service for example. If you are hiking, some water and Marseille soap would be perfect.
