Discover Malta

This year, I had the chance to discover the beautiful island of Malta. This country has all the things I love: nice weather, beautiful landscapes, sea and good food! Sounds nice? I loved this country so much that I will move there very soon!

Whether you like culture, nature, lazing at the beach or party all night, you will enjoy Malta for sure! Discover my favorite places in this article!

Valletta is the capital of Malta. The city is full of historical places and we understand why it has been chosen to be the European capital of culture in 2018!

What I like the most in Valletta is simply to get lost in the cute tiny streets. Just have a big walk in the city, look at the beautiful buildings, get down on the streets to have a view on the sea… and take some nice pictures!

Have a walk in the Upper Barrakka Gardens. These beautiful gardens offer a great view on the Grand Harbour and on what we call the “3 cities”, Senglea, Vittoriosa and Kalkara.

I didn’t have the opportunity to visit the whole city but there lots of attractions such as cathedrals, museums or historical sites. Have a look at this website to plan ahead your visit.

Sliema is a city just at the other side of the sea, in front of Valletta, which gives a beautiful view on the capital.

There is a nice sea wall, perfect to have a long walk along the sea. For a drink or a lunch in a nice place, I advise you The Terrace. You will have a great view on Valletta!

If you’d rather like a cosy place and enjoy a yummy cheesecake, muffin or other delicious sweet desserts, try the French Affaire, a very cute café.

Shopping addict? You will find many shops in the city itself or at The Point Shopping Mall.

Your visit at Sliema is not completed without enjoying one of the most stunning view I ever saw. When you are in front of the shopping mall, don’t go back in the city but walk in direction of the sea, at the end of the coast. You will find an area of rocks. Look for it, it’s worthy, I swear!

According to me, Marsaxlokk is truly the cutest village in Malta, and one of the loveliest I’ve ever seen in my life.

This village is a fisher harbor, with plenty of colorful fisher boats called Luzzu. Visit the city when there is the market where you will find fruits, vegetables, Maltese products, but also clothes, accessories and souvenirs.

Who says fisher harbor also says fresh fish and delicious sea food! There are lots of restaurants along the coast. My favorite is Café de Paris. My boyfriend and I had a big seafood plate for 2, with prawns, squids, mussels, fish, fries and salad, only for 25€ (for 2!). And bonus with this meal, we were offered 2 glass of wines. Cheap and delicious!

About 30 minutes walking away from the city, there is St Peter’s pool, an incredible natural pool. Imagine swimming in that amazing place! I wish I could, but the weather was a little bit windy that day.

Mdina is the old capital of Malta. This is a medieval and historical town, also known as “the silent city”. This name has been chosen because there are only 300 people living inside, so it is pretty quiet. The town is fortified which makes you feel like you are in another time, like if you did a jump in the past. The buildings look old, the atmosphere is really peaceful and that is what makes the city beautiful.

The main attraction points in Mdina are the cathedral and the Mdina Experience.

If you watch Games of Thrones, you will recognize that the city’s entrance is the entrance of King’s Landing in the TV show.

Hungry after visiting the city? Enjoy a delicious meal at Palazzo de Piro. The food is good, not expensive, and the view on the upper terrace is beautiful!

Saint Julian

Paceville, an area in Saint Julian, is really the place to go if you want to party all night. It is a paradise for party people. I didn’t have the opportunity to enjoy that place, because I went there on St Patrick’s Day and thus the streets were too busy and I’m not very comfortable in crowded places.

If you’d rather like a quiet place, I advise you to have a drink in a bar at Balluta Bay. I really enjoyed the cocktails, the view and the friendly crew at The Villa Brasserie.

I didn’t have the occasion the visit more this city, but I will have plenty of time to do it when I will live in Malta!

This is THE place to go to enjoy a stunning view on the sea. This is also the city where there is the famous Blue Grotto.

Have a walk along the sea and enjoy the incredible view. But the visit is not completed without a boat tour. I did it and it was AMAZING! You go under the grottos and you enjoy an amazing view! My boat tour is one of my best souvenirs in Malta, and it’s not expensive (8€ for 20 minutes boat trip). Do it, it’s truly worthy!

Malta is not only one main island; it is an archipelago of 8 islands. Some of them are very small and no one lives there. The island of Gozo is probably the most known and it is an amazing place!

I just spent a few hours there, in the city of San Lawrenz where the main attraction point used to be the Azure Windows before it collapsed in March 2017. Despite this, the view on the sea is still amazing.

At Gozo you will find what we call the “inland sea” which is a part of the sea who is inside several grottos and so it looks more like a big swimming pool. This place is so beautiful and peaceful, you should definetely go there!

Now I bet you want to book a flight for Malta? I hope you will love it as much as I do! 🙂

  1. It looks absolutely incredible. I’ve always wanted to go but haven’t had the chance yet – but have had so many clients go and say it’s one of the biggest travel surprises they’ve experienced! Love your pics too!
