This year, I had the chance to discover the beautiful island of Malta. This country has all the things I love: nice weather, beautiful landscapes, sea and good food! Sounds nice? I loved this country so much that I will move there very soon!
Whether you like culture, nature, lazing at the beach or party all night, you will enjoy Malta for sure! Discover my favorite places in this article!
Valletta
Valletta is the capital of Malta. The city is full of historical places and we understand why it has been chosen to be the European capital of culture in 2018!
What I like the most in Valletta is simply to get lost in the cute tiny streets. Just have a big walk in the city, look at the beautiful buildings, get down on the streets to have a view on the sea… and take some nice pictures!
Have a walk in the Upper Barrakka Gardens. These beautiful gardens offer a great view on the Grand Harbour and on what we call the “3 cities”, Senglea, Vittoriosa and Kalkara.
I didn’t have the opportunity to visit the whole city but there lots of attractions such as cathedrals, museums or historical sites.
Sliema
Sliema is a city just at the other side of the sea, in front of Valletta, which gives a beautiful view on the capital.
There is a nice sea wall, perfect to have a long walk along the sea. Shopping addict? You will find many shops in the city itself or at The Point Shopping Mall.
Your visit at Sliema is not completed without enjoying one of the most stunning view I ever saw. When you are in front of the shopping mall, don’t go back in the city but walk in direction of the sea, at the end of the coast. You will find an area of rocks. Look for it, it’s worthy, I swear!
Marsaxlokk
This village of Marsaxlokk has a fisher harbor, with plenty of colorful fisher boats called Luzzu. Visit the city when there is the market where you will find fruits, vegetables, Maltese products, but also clothes, accessories and souvenirs. Who says fisher harbor also says fresh fish and delicious sea food! There are lots of restaurants along the coast.
Mdina
Mdina is the old capital of Malta. This is a medieval and historical town, also known as “the silent city”. This name has been chosen because there are only 300 people living inside, so it is pretty quiet. The town is fortified which makes you feel like you are in another time, like if you did a jump in the past. The buildings look old, the atmosphere is really peaceful and that is what makes the city beautiful. The main attraction points in Mdina are the cathedral and the Mdina Experience.
If you watch Games of Thrones, you will recognize that the city’s entrance is the entrance of King’s Landing in the TV show.
Saint Julian
Paceville, an area in Saint Julian, is really the place to go if you want to party all night. It is a paradise for party people. If you’d rather like a quiet place, I advise you to have a drink in a bar at Balluta Bay. I really enjoyed the cocktails, the view and the friendly crew at The Villa Brasserie.
Zurrieq
This is THE place to go to enjoy a stunning view on the sea. This is also the city where there is the famous Blue Grotto. You can go under the grotto by boat, the tour costs €8.
Gozo
Malta is not only one main island; it is an archipelago of 8 islands. Some of them are very small and no one lives there. The island of Gozo is probably the most known and it is an amazing place!
At Gozo you will find what we call the “inland sea” which is a part of the sea who is inside several grottos and so it looks more like a big swimming pool. This place is so beautiful and peaceful, you should definetely go there!
Now I bet you want to book a flight for Malta? I hope you will love it as much as I do! 🙂
